Blues Face Same Fate

The Dawson Blues saw their 10 game win streak snapped against second place team, the Limoilou Titans, who won the game 5-3 and saw their best player, Elizabeth Giguère, notch 4 goals and 1 assist.

The Titans quickly went up 1-0 in the 1st period, but Dawson then scored 3 unanswered goals, ending the first period with a 3-1 lead. Head Coach Scott Lambton said that they were “nervous to start off the game but then we started playing how we usually play.” It seemed as though the Blues would cruise through the rest of the game with a 3-1 lead.

In the second period, Limoilou came out on the offensive and tied the game up 3-3. In the third period, both teams were holding their own until the Titans scored the go-ahead goal. Not long after, they put the nail in the coffin with another goal as Dawson scrambled to get the puck out of the zone--they were unsuccessful. Coach Lambton explained what happened in the second and third period: "we payed too much respect to number 11.” He also spoke about the team's reaction to the go-ahead goal in the third period: “The way it happened is what had an impact; we were chasing number 11 and then she kicked it out and they scored.”

Unfortunately, Dawson was unable to bring the game back home to Gadbois, as they lost the finals in game 2 at Arpidrome arena. They suffered a disappointing end to their tremendous season; they went 21-3 throughout the regular season and displayed their dominance in the playoffs. Limoilou seemed to be too quick for the Blues to handle, which eventually became their undoing as they were unable of keeping star Élizabeth Giguère off the score sheet.

This season, however, the Blues have consistently displayed their dominance, despite the devastating loss last season. With new Head Coach Camille Dumais replacing former Head Coach Scott Lambton, the Blues have maintained their dominance throughout the regular season once again. They had a record of 20-4, making them second best in the league.

With redemption on their mind, the Blues faced off against Limoilou in the finals once again. Unfortunately, on April 14th, they suffered the same fate as last season. Dawson got swept in the finals as they lost both games and were outscored in the series: 12-4. Having another painful loss in the finals will only create more motivation for the Blues next season, where they will attempt to maintain their high level of play in the league.
